Another illegal gutkha unit unearthed

The Odisha Police today unearthed another illegal gutkha manufacturing unit at Narendrapur under Chamakhandi police station and seized huge quantities of gutkha and machines to manufacture it.

"We have raided the illegally-run gutkha manufacturing unit by breaking its lock as its owner was not present," said inspector in charge, Chamakhandi police station, AK Parida.

The seized items included various machines to manufacture and pack gutkhas, empty sachets and raw materials. The worth of seized items was estimated around Rs one crore, he said.

The unit was sealed after the raids.

It was four such illegally run units in and around Berhampur town unearthed by the police within a week. Earlier, police had unearthed such at Bhutapalli and Makapalli under Berhampur Sadara police station and Bada Bazar area under Bada Bazar police station limit.
 

Around Rs 2 crore worth items had seized from these three places. Police arrested three persons, claimed to be owners of the factory at Makapalli.
