AP govt planning to build 14 new ports

Andhra Pradesh Government plans to construct 14 more ports in the state, Visakhapatnam Port Trust chairman M T Krishna Babu said here today.

Addressing a Maritime Business summit here, Krishna Babu underlined that ports along the east coast are gaining importance and ports in the state have to play a key role in economic growth of the country.

"It is necessary to use the capacity of the existing ports (four in total) to the full and the railway network and roadways should be improved for the speedy cargo evacuation from ports," he added.

Krishna Babu said Sagaramala Project of Central government would pave the away for interlinking of ports and development of their hinterland.
 

Observing that port sector is crucial for economic growth of the country, the chairman said VPT will become a transshipment hub in future.
