Arhar, its dal weaken on muted demand

Arhar and its dal, saw a fall of Rs 100 in its prices at the wholesale market today owing to slackened demand at prevailing levels.

However, other pulses after moving in a narrow range in limited deals and settled around previous levels.

Marketmen said sluggish demand against sufficient stocks position as supplies continued to pick up after government's measures, led to decline in arhar and its dal prices.

Arhar and its dal dara variety weakened by Rs 100 each to Rs 10,800 and Rs 11,500-14,500 per quintal respectively.

At retail market, arhar was trading at Rs 175 per kg in the national capital.
 

Meanwhile, the government decided to create a buffer stock of pulses by procuring 1.5 lakh tonnes of lentils that will be used to check spurts in retail rates.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) also decided to import pulses if required.

The government had in October announced that it will create a buffer stock of pulses for making market intervention when prices firm up in retail markets.

Following are today's pulses rates (in Rs per quintal):

Urad Rs 9,200-10,200, Urad Chilka (local) Rs 10,300-10,500, Urad best Rs 10,400-11,000, Dhoya Rs 10,800-11,200, Moong Rs 7,050-7,650, Dal Moong Chilka local Rs 7,650-8,050, Moong Dhoya local Rs 8,000-8,500 and best quality Rs 8,500-8,700.

Masoor small Rs 5,600-6,600, bold Rs 5,650-6,650, Dal Masoor local Rs 6,800-7,000, best quality Rs 6,900-7,100, Malka local Rs 6,900-7,300, best Rs 7,000-7,500, Moth Rs 5,800-6,200, Arhar Rs 10,800, Dal Arhar Dara Rs 11,500-14,500.

Gram Rs 5,200-5,650, Gram dal (local) Rs 5,400-5,700, best quality Rs 5,600-5,900, Besan (35 kg), Shakti Bhog Rs 2,340, Rajdhani Rs 2,340, Rajma Chitra Rs 4,900-6,300, Kabuli Gram small Rs 5,200-7,600, Dabra Rs 2,700-2,800, Imported Rs 4,700-5,100, Lobia Rs 5,000-5,200, Peas white Rs 2,700-2,725 and green Rs 2,950-3,050.
