Assam law & order conducive for investment, Brit envoy told

The law and order situation in Assam has improved considerably and the atmosphere is conducive for investments in the state, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told a British envoy.

"More and more investors are showing interest in investing in different sectors in the state and land prices have also soared," Gogoi told British Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata Scott Furssedonn Wood, who called on him here, according to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

Holding of international sports event like the Indian Super League (ISL) bear testimony to the fact that the law and order situation has improved considerably, he said.

Gogoi also pointed out the geographical importance of Assam in context of better connectivity with neighbouring states and its proximity to South East Asian countries.
 

"Assam can be a hub for investors interested in establishing and expanding business in North East and South East Asian region," the chief minister said.

He also underlined the need for strengthening relationship with Bangladesh for better connectivity through railways and waterways.

Wood informed the Chief Minister that a delegation of British Parliamentarians was likely to visit Assam as part of a goodwill visit to India in the first part of next year.

He also apprised Gogoi of the keen interest evinced by UK investors in infrastructure sector of Assam.

The British Deputy High Commissioner appreciated the development initiatives of the Chief Minister and looked forward for better cooperation in the days ahead, the CMO said.
