Auto driver killed, woman passenger injured in accident

A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver died and a woman passenger suffered severe injuries after the three-wheeler was allegedly hit by a speeding cab in New Delhi's Raisina Road today.

The driver of the cab, which was hired by a prominent hotel in New Delhi and was returning after dropping a guest, has been detained, said a police official, adding that they are trying to ascertain the identity of the deceased autorickshaw driver.

According to the police, the incident was reported around 7.15 pm when the autorickshaw driver, heading towards Parliament Street, was hit by the cab while trying to overtake the latter.
 

The three-wheeler toppled after its driver applied brakes to save a pedestrian.

A police team rushed the autorickshaw driver and the woman passenger to a hospital, where the former was declared brought dead and the latter was admitted with severe injuries.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law and the police are checking CCTV footage to ascertain the culpability of the errant driver, the senior official added.
