Press Trust of India New Delhi
Barley price shot up by Rs 50.50 to Rs 1,400 per quintal in futures trading today on the back of frantic buying amid thin supply.

Marketmen said steep hike in demand from beer and cattle-feed makers against less arrivals pushed up barley prices.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, barley prices for July contract shot up by Rs 50.50, or 3.74 per cent, to Rs 1,400 per quintal, with an open interest of 370 lots.

June contract climbed by Rs 21.50, or 1.60 per cent, to Rs 1,368 per quintal, in an open interest of 6,840 lots.

Most active May contract gained Rs 19.50, or 1.48 per cent, to Rs 1,338 per quintal, having an open interest of 10,870 lots.
