West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said she was strictly against rape or any other atrocities against women and stated that incidents of rape has reduced by 12 per cent in the state.
"I am against rape or any other atrocities against women. I don't support any such happening, but to ensure that not a single such incident occurs, social awareness has to be increased," Banerjee said during an interview with a vernacular news channel here.
Banerjee, who also hold the Home (Police) portfolio, said that the incidents of rape has reduced in West Bengal by 12 per cent.

"We have set up 26 women police stations in the state and have set up 45 Mahila Adalats (Women courts)," she said adding the state was running 88 fast track courts.
Denying that she was soft when Trinamool Congress leaders were accused of any unlawful activity, Banerjee said "I have got TMC leaders arrested. Sambhu Kow (a TMC councillor in Kolkata Municipal Corporation), Arabul Islam and Munna were arrested when allegations came against them."
Asked about Anubrata Mondal, the Birbhum district TMC president accused in the murder of an independent panchayat member, she said "Anubrata's case is in the courts.
