With a view to encouraging pursuit of excellence among academics, Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul today said research scholars who come up with the best research work published and most innovative invention will be conferred annually with the "Chancellor's Award".
Announcing this at the second tri-monthly meeting of the state's universities, the Governor said the award will incentivise academic excellence.
The first edition of the award which carries an amount of Rs 20,000 in cash and a certificate will be given to the deserving researchers for 2014 by the end of this year, he said.

This is the second award instituted by the governor to encourage academic excellence and the first at the university level.
He conferred the Governor's Award on the top scorers in each discipline at the school level recently.
Asking the Vice-Chancellors at the meeting to make improvement in the quality of higher education their first and foremost goal, Paul said the educational institutions should be cast in a different mold in accordance with constantly changing educational environment across the globe.
He suggested revision of syllabi to include new facets of education like skill development so that education could be linked directly with employment.
Private investment in the education sector can be good for improving the standard of education but it should be done with a sense of social commitment and not with purpose of commercialisation of education.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting were Doon University Vice Chancellor V K Jain , Pant Nagar University VC Mangla Prasad and Kumaun University VC H S Dhami.
