A cross-section of people in Puducherry, including businessmen, on Monday welcomed the Centre scrapping Article 370 according special status to Jammu and Kashmir and the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories, it is a "step in the right direction." saying

With the announcement of bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories "there would be a fast development and progress" in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, he said.
"One nation one law has been achieved through the bold and historic announcements relating to Jammu and Kashmir," Venkataramani said.
Puducherry made stupendous progress after it became a Union Territory in 1962 and the two union territories carved out of Jammu and Kashmir would see great development, he said.
B Radha, a housewife, said the Home Minister has created history and added "kudos to him for the announcements."
She said through the historic announcement Jammu and Kashmir had been brought on par with other states in the country.
"A feeling that all are Indians with equal rights is now becoming a reality with the scrapping of Article 370," she added.
C Balou, a businessman, said "the Union Home Minister has come out with bold and laudable announcements. In a democracy balance is very important and now with the scrapping of Article 370 Jammu and Kashmir has been brought on par with the rest of the country."
BJP's nominated legislator K G Shankar hailed the Centre's move as "historic and laudable."
Palanivelu, a taxi-driver said the Centre "had done good service to the people."
Puducherry had made rapid progress in almost all sectors with the support of the Centre after it became a Union Territory, he said adding this would be repeated in the case of Jammu and Kashmir.
