Black pepper drops on weak demand

Black pepper prices dropped further in an otherwise mute spices market here today on weak demand from stockists and retailers amid poor export offtake.

Black pepper slid by Rs 10/20 per kg to Rs 570/650 from Thursday's closing level of Rs 590/660.

Following are today's closing rates (in Rs) with previous rates in brackets:

Black pepper (per kg) 570/650 (590/660), ginger unbleached (per kg) 120 (120), copra office Alappuzha (per quintal) 9,100 (9,100), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 9,000 (9,000), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 10,500 (10,500), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 9,800 (9,800).
