A body was found in the ladies coach of a Mathura-bound EMU train, which got delayed due to the incident, Railway officials said today.

Officials said that when train no. 64904, the Ghaziabad-Mathura Junction EMU, arrived at the Sadar railway station, a woman Rajender Kaur noticed a dead body in the train and called PCR 100.

"Train was attended at New Delhi at 5:15 pm on arrival by GRP and RPF and the dead body taken by GRP for postmortem. Due to this train got delayed," a statement from Northern Railway said.

The train's delay triggered protests at the Tilak Bridge station where people complained that the train was regularly late.

"When the same train arrived at Tilak Bridge station at about 6:10 pm some passengers came onto the track and blocked movement of the train," the statement said.

Following a probe it was found that they were protesting against the delay, not knowing that today it was caused by a dead body, officials said.

The protesting passengers said that the train was regularly arriving late by 40 minutes.

"For today, the reason for the delay was finding of a body in the ladies coach... After some time other officials attended the train and finally the train departed at 6.52 pm for its destination. Due to this incident the train suffered 42 minutes delay at Tilak Bridge station," officials said.

The body was yet to be identified.

Meanwhile, protests by passengers over train delays were reported from many areas. According to the Northern Railways, daily passengers protested over the delay in the Delhi- Palwal shuttle in Tilak Bridge, Okhla, New Town and Old Faridabad stations.

According to railway officials, affected trains include the Delhi-Mathura shuttle, and the Palwal shuttle which was forced to stop at Okhla station by the protesters.

The protesting passengers alleged that in the last four months, the administration had stopped several trains which had caused them huge inconvenience.

They also said that even the trains which were plying were running late by two-three hours.

Officials said that mischievous elements had blocked the tracks using metal chairs. The tracks were cleared around 8:30 pm by RPF and GRP.
