After an unending wait, city-resident Rekha Dalal (60) today got possession of the body of her husband Rajnikant Dalal (62), who died of cardiac arrest in Saudi Arabia on April 29.

The flight bringing his body landed at 7.30 am, but the body was handed over to the family at 2.30 pm due to the paperwork involved.

Last rights were performed later in suburban Ghatkopar.

"My father had been working in Saudi Arabia for the last 30 years. As per contractual terms, it was the responsibility of the company to send the body here (in the event of death)," said his daughter Khyati Dalal (24).

But the company made no arrangements, nor did it pay for the transport, she said, adding that her mother had to shell out Rs 2.2 lakh to bring the body back.

Khyati also said that Saudi officials were apathetic when the family contacted them.

Dalal is survived by wife Rekha (60), daughter Khyati (24) and son Devang (20).
