Brazil is understanding of India's NSG membership bid: Govt

Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

France and Russia support India's membership to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) and Brazil has expressed understanding for the same, government said today.

The government continues to engage with all members of the NSG at appropriate levels for an early decision on India's application for membership of the Group, Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

He was asked about details of foreign Heads of State who visited India during last one year and whether government has held talks with them regarding India's membership for NSG. He was also asked about their response to India's NSG bid.

Presidents of France, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Egypt, Afghanistan, Russia, Brazil, Israel and Indonesia visited India in 2016, Singh said, adding except Russia, France and Brazil, the other countries are not members of the NSG.
