About 150 acres of agricultural land was filled with sand after being submerged by a sudden flood due to a breach in a canal of the Indravati project in Odisha's Kalahandi district.
The flooding took place near Kasibahal village about 60 kms from here yesterday. The breach, which is about 25 meters long, damaged 150 acres land owned by 30 farmers.
The authorities of Indravati reservoir had released water for Rabi crops, sources said, adding about 40 qucec of water was released in the canal as against capacity of 70 qucec.

However, the embankment collapsed causing a breach and resulting to the flash flood, they said.
Senior officials of the state Water Resources department and Indravati Dam authorities rushed to the spot for an on the spot verification.
The reservoir authorities have shut down the main sluice gate of the canal to prevent further damage.
"Efforts are on to repair the embankment on war-footing," a senior official said.
