Four persons were electrocuted to death in two separate incidents in Chhatisgarh's Janjgir Champa and Balrampur districts, police said today.

"Two youth had gone to have a bath in a river in a Gunjiyabad village in the district yesterday. Someone had put an electric wire in the river to catch fish. The wire was attached with a electric pole," Janjgir Champa Additional Superintendent of Police Vijay Agrawal said.

When the youth - Hemant Shante (18) and Firoze Kumar Shante (24) entered into the river, they came in contact with the power-filled wire and were electrocuted, he said.

Following which, they were rushed to a nearby primary health-care centre and were declared brought dead, the officer said.

In the second incident in Balrampur, a 50-year-old Kapil Ghasia yesterday came in contact with a live wire in a nullah when he had entered to catch fish, Chalgali police station in-charge Umendra Tondon said.

When he suffered shocks and wreathed in pain, his friend Harkesh Goud entered the nullah to save him and got electrocuted, the officer said.

Both were rushed to a local hospital and were declared brought in dead, he added.

Police said a case was registered in both the incidents and investigations are underway.
