Buckingham Palace says a wristband worn by tennis star Andy Murray during his Wimbledon tournament and later given to the Duchess of Cornwall has fetched more than 2,000 pounds (USD 3,100) for an animal charity.

Camilla, the wife of Prince Charles, grimaced as the chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club handed her the sweaty wristband tossed out by the tennis star last Friday.

The British royal put her memento, worn and signed by Murray, on the online auction site, eBay, where it attracted 45 bids and sold for 2,100 pounds today.

The money raised will go directly to the Animal Care Trust, the Royal Veterinary College's registered charity, where Camilla has been a patron for 10 years.
