Cardamom sheds 0.26% on higher supply, low demand

Traders pare positions as higher arrvals from growing areas add to downward pressure on prices

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Cardamom prices traded lower by 0.26 per cent to Rs 874 per kg in futures trade today as speculators reduced positions, triggered by higher supplies in spot markets from producing belts against subdued demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in December declined by Rs 2.30, or 0.26 per cent, to Rs 874 per kg in business turnover of 261 lots.

The January contract shed Rs 1.40, or 0.16 per cent to Rs 899.50 per kg in 13 lots.

Analysts said off-loading of positions by speculators amid higher supplies from producing regions against sluggish demand mainly kept pressure on cardamom prices in futures trade.
