Todd Haynes's period romance "Carol", starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, could not register a single win at Baftas this year despite its nine nominations.

The same sex romance, once tipped as the award season's front-runner, seems to have lost steam as it returned empty-handed once again, after its no show at the Golden Globes.

"Carol", which was adapted from Patricia Highsmith's novel 'The Price of Salt', is a drama set in the 1950's New York.

Hailed for its touching portrayal of romance between two women separated by class.

The film is nominated in six categories at the Oscars including best actress for Blanchett, best supporting actress for Mara and best adapted screenplay.
