Rajat Majumder, one of the accused in the multi-crore rupees Saradha scam, was today remanded to five days police custody on a petition moved by the Special Crime branch of CBI.

Majumdar was produced in Alipore court by CBI during the day soon after being discharged from a city hospital where he was admitted following his arrest on September 10.

He was remanded to five days police custody for interrogation by the CBI sleuths.

A senior CBI official told PTI that when Majumder was asked to give his defence, he vehemently challenged the move taken by the investigating agency saying that nothing could be extracted from him during his stay in custody.

Yesterday, the agency got 'deemed judicial custody' of Majumder since he was not fit for physical production.

The CBI during the course of the probe had arrested Rajat Majumdar, former Director General of State Armed Police, who is considered close to the Trinamool Congress leadership and a proclaimed security consultant of the Saradha Group.
