: Steps should be taken to hand over the illegal Granite mining case to CBI as suggested by the Sagayam commission, to further unearth real facts, social activist and People Protection Movement leader, 'Traffc' Ramasamy said here today.
The Madras High Court, which directed and supervised the Sahayam probe, should monitor the probe, once it was handed over to the CBI, he told reporters here.
To a question on the reported 'loot' of red soil and sand from estern Ghats in this region, he said he wanted the corruption prevailing in entire Tamil Nadu to be probed and if there were any details on the issue, he will fight it legally and try to bring the culprits to book.
Alleging that most political parties were after power and not interested in serving the people, Ramasamy urged the public elect the honest candidates who are willing to fight for their cause and benefit.
On Nov 23, Madras High Court-appointed Legal Commissioner, U Sagayam, had submitted a 600 page report after winding up his nine-month-long probe into the multi-crore rupee granite scam in Madurai district
When Sagayam was Madurai Collector in May 2012,he had sent a report to the government stating that it had incurred a revenue loss of Rs 16,300 crore.
Subsequently, the special team of commissioner, Directorate of Geology of Mining gave an estimated loss of Rs 18,600 crore.
