The Centre is planning to set up schools for minorities on the pattern of central universities in minorities-dominated areas, Union minister K Rehman Khan said.
Union Minister for Minority Affairs Khan, who was in Alwar yesterday to inaugurate a cyber village pilot project, said the central government had taken several initiatives for development of minorities, and now considering dedicated setting up schools for them.
Speaking at the public function after inaugurating the project at Chandoli village, Khan said his ministry had introduced "Nayi Roshani" and "Sikho aur Kamao" schemes that would provide opportunities for skill development.
He said the ministry was providing scholarship to more than one crore students, according to a release here today.
About the cyber village, the minister said the government had started the project from the Mewat region (Alwar) so that the local populace could get maximum benefit.
He said the village has a sizable population of Meo Muslims and they will be imparted computer training.
Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Ninong Ering and MoS for Defence Jitendra Singh were among those present at the function.
