The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has decided to hold its first national council meeting at heritage Town Hall here after being suggested by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

"When we went to invite the Chief minister for the January 17 event, she asked us to do something new and suggested the Town Hall," CII Vice President Sumit Mazumder told PTI here.

"After we reviewed the site closely we were confident this would give an unique experience to attending industrialists and council members," Mazumder said.

"There is a lot of expectations from Bengal. There is a feeling that the Chief Minister is willing to bring industry," he said.

"At this juncture who else other than the Chief Minister can be appropriate to clear the air of curiosity of industrialists who are eagerly looking to east to tap potential," Mazumder said.

He said locations and month of national meets were finalised in April-May after the AGM.

CII had been able to bring Banerjee to its Biz Bridge in November 2013 held at Milan Mela when she officially addressed any chamber since she took over as the Chief Minister.
