Ten students of Gour College were today injured in a clash between students belonging to the ABVP and the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad in connection with filing of nominations for the forthcoming students' union election.

A senior police officer said that trouble started when TMCP supporters prevented students of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad from entering the college to file papers for the January 29 students election.

This led to brick-batting between the students of the two unions. On receipt of information, a police force under the Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek Modi rushed to the spot and resorted to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

Ten students were injured in brick-batting and police lathicharge. Of them, six were rushed to Malda Medical College and Hospital. Three policemen also sustained injuries in brick-batting, Modi said.

Traffic on NH-34 was stalled for about half an hour in the morning due to the incident, he added.
