Two Congress corporators were suspended from the party for allegedly demanding protection money from a city-based real estate developer.
Congress corporators Keyur Masrani and Preeti Desai from Ward number 8 allegedly demanded Rs 11 lakh and Rs 10 lakh respectively from real estate developer Bharat Parekh, who is constructing a building in Sony Bazar, a police official said.
"Bharat had lodged a complaint with the police accusing the two of demanding protection money," he said.

Police sub-inspector L K Chavda, who is investigating the case said that the complainant also alleged that Rs 3 lakh had already been given to Desai.
The Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) took action and suspended the two corporators with immediate effect, Rajkot Congress city unit president Hemang Vasavada said.
"I received a letter from co-ordinator of the party election committee Bablubhai Patel, which stated that the party's disciplinary committee suspended the two corporators for allegedly demanding protection money," Vasavada said.
"Newly appointed president of the Gujarat Congress Bharat Solanki suggested suspending both of them from the party," he said.
