Congress is committed to empowerment of panchayats by bringing necessary amendments to the J&K Panchayati Raj Act, JKPCC chief Saifuddin Soz said today.

"Though there has been delay in the Block Development Council (BDC) elections, the party is committed to the implementation of 73rd and 74th amendments to Panchayat Raj Act in the state," Soz told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

The function was organised by the J&K Kashyap Rajput Sabha to felicitate the state Congress chief.

He also said that the government is working to ensure that the Block Development Council polls, which were postponed last year, are held in time.

Earlier, Soz said his party has always taken various initiatives for the uplift of weaker sections. He referred to the constitution of the OBC Advisory Board in this regard.

The JKPCC chief also thanked the Kashyap Rajput community for its support to his party.
