Copper remains weak on sluggish demand

Copper prices fell by Rs 2 per kg at the local non-ferrous market today on slackened demand from consuming industries amid a weakening Asian trend.

However, other base metals moved in a narrow range in limited deals and settled around previous levels.

Traders said subdued demand from consuming industries and a weakening trend at Shanghai Exchange where copper dropped before industrial profit data from China tomorrow.

Meanwhile, copper for March delivery declined 0.2 per cent to 45,520 yuan (USD 7,337) a metric tonne on the Shanghai Exchange.

In the national capital, copper mixed scrap declined further by Rs 2 to Rs 418 per kg.
 

Following are today's metal rates (in Rs per kg):

Zinc ingot 114-120, Nickel plate (4x4) 1,091-1,097, Gun metal scrap 227, Bell metal scrap 229, Copper mixed scrap 418, Chadri deshi 285.

Lead ingot 106, Lead imported 107, Aluminium ingots 166, Aluminium sheet cutting 167, Aluminium wire scrap 169 and Aluminium utensils scrap 166.
