Prices of copra Alapuzha and Kozhikode rallied sharply at the spices market here today due to renewed demand from stockists and traders as well as good offtake by oil millers.

Sharp surge in domestic and export demand in the midst of acute shortage of copra are mainly driving up the prices, a trader said.

While, black pepper, ginger, copra Rajapur and copra edible closed unaltered in the absence of necessary buying.

Copra office Alapuzha zoomed by Rs 1,000 per quintal to Rs 12,000 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 11,000 and copra office Kozhikode jumped by Rs 600 per quintal to Rs 11,500 as compared to Rs 10,900.
