The corrosion is impacting 4.2 per cent of the country's GDP and the menace requires urgent appropriate measures, says a study.
The extent of the problem indeed is serious and will require urgent appropriate measures, the study by FICCI along with NACE international said.
The study also provides scientific basis to facilitate formulation of appropriate strategies to control the menace of corrosion.

Corrosion is a natural process, which converts a refined metal to a more stable form, such as its oxide, hydroxide, or sulfide. It can cause damage to everything from automobiles, drinking water systems to pipelines, bridges, factories and public buildings etc.
The study was released today on the occasion of the International Corrosion Awareness Day.
