Kavita (17) was having an affair with Santosh (35), father of two young children, of Guthari village in Didarganj area for the past some time, police said here today.
As the family members of the two were opposed to their relationship, they fled from their homes yesterday.
Last evening, villagers found them lying near the village canal.
Both were rushed to a Jaunpur hospital, where the girl died while the man was battling for life, police added.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had consumed poison.
