Two government officials were given a one-month jail term and their properties worth Rs 50,000 were attached by a court that convicted them in contempt case related to closure of a petrol pump in 2003.

Additional Civil Judicial Magistrate Kedarnath found Subodh Agarwal and Harbhajan Singh, the then collector of Bharatpur and DSO respectively, guilty of contempt on a order in which the court had asked them to maintain the status quo of the petrol pump but it was closed down by their order in July 2003.

Yesterday, the Magistrate has ordered one month of jail, and attachment of their property worth Rs 50,000 to both the officers who are now posted elsewhere. Agarwal is presently Divisional Commissioner of Udaipur, and Singh in Bundi as DSO.

In 2003, the then collector had ordered the closure of petrol pump after cancelling its NOC, and the court had asked the district officials to maintain status quo in the matter which they violated.
