Court slaps Rs 10 lakh penalty on 2 firm officials

A local court today slapped a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on two senior executives of a private steel making company on the charge of not implementing safety measures in the plant at Meramundali here.

Chief Judicial Magistrate's court (CJM), Dhenkanal, Rekha Prasad, slapped the fine on the company's Vice-President Satish Tyagi and Director Rahul Sengupta while disposing of five different cases lodged by the Assistant Director of Factory and Broiler, Dhenkanal, Odisha.

The court announced its verdict on five out of 82 cases lodged against the company which alleged general violations under the Factories Act, 1948 and Odisha Factories Rule, 1950, said Additional Public Prosecutor Ranjan Pradhan.
 

No company official was immediately available for comment on the development.
