The CPI today registered its strong protest against Puducherry government's recent order, mandating implementation of digital transactions in the Union Territory.
Deputy Secretary of local unit of CPI A Ramamoorthy in a release said while Chief Minister V Narayanasamy had taken the stand that digital banking cannot be imposed on the UT,the Finance department had come out with an order "at the instance of Lt Governor", directing all government departments to adopt electronic mode of payment to staff, contractors, government undertakings and aided institutions.
He urged the Chief Minister to stick to his stand that digital banking was not suitable for Puducherry.
The CM should firmly oppose it and ensure that digital transaction was dropped in the larger interest of workers, unorganised sector and poorer sections "as it is an undemocratic decision", he said.
