CPI leader D Raja has donated Rs 50 lakh from his MPLADs fund for relief and rehabilitation works in flood-ravaged Uttarakhand.

In a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari, he gave consent for withdrawal of the amount to carry out relief and rehabilitation works in the affected areas.

The state has witnessed large-scale devastation due to cloudbursts, landslides, flash floods and heavy rains.

Several members of Rajya Sabha have expressed their desire to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation works for victims of the devastating flash floods in Uttarakhand, which has been declared as "calamity of severe nature" by the government.

After the devastation, several MPs had wanted to make contributions for such works, with Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari asking them to contribute under MPLAD scheme.

The funds would be released by the authority of the nodal district of the MP concerned to the authority of the affected districts to get the works done.
