The activists of CPI(M) today held a protest march against the alleged discrepancies in implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Hundreds of the activists marched from Green Belt Park at Gandhinagar here towards Divisional Commissioner Office.

"The NFSA has deprived a large portion of the population from its ambit. There is a need to streamline the list of beneficiaries," CPI (M) Regional Secretary Sham Prasad Kesar said.

Kesar said they urge Governor N N Vohra to include the deprived sections of the people under the NFSA.

He demanded that the private members resolution moved by CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami, which was passed unanimously inthe State Legislative Assembly in August, 2014 for providing 35 kg food grains to every family at Rs 2 per kg be implemented in the state.

"The section of population born after 2011 be also covered under the Act. There are huge discrepancies in the list compiled by the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CAPD) and without streamlining its database, a huge section of the people will be rendered dispossessed of the CAPD services," Kesar said.
