The Cyberabad Police Commissionerate here has witnessed around 30 per cent jump in cases of crimes against women this year including 110 cases, which were registered under Criminal Law (Amendment) Act-2013.

However, downplaying the increase in number of cases, Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said, "There is nothing alarming (in the rise in cases)... It only indicates that more and more women are coming forward and complaining on crime against them."

The Cyberabad Police chief was interacting with reporters at the Annual Press conference today.

Crimes against women rose to 2,391 cases this year from 1,914 registered in 2012 and out of which 110 are Nirbhaya Act cases.

A five-pronged strategy for revamping security in Cyberabad with focus on safety of women employees has been initiated by efforts from police and other departments, he said.

The measures include increasing the number of public transport buses, regulating private transport, enhancing security with increased patrolling, installation of more number of CCTV cameras and creating awareness on security of women.

Tennis player Sania Mirza has acted in one of the six short films as part of awareness campaign on women security which will be shortly played in cinema halls, Anand said.

Replying to a query, he said that as per the Nirbhaya Act, cases have to be taken up in fast track courts for trial on a fast track basis and pointed out though they had filed chargesheets in 64 cases the trial was yet to commence in any of the cases.

"We will soon have fast track courts and a chargesheet will also be filed in the sensational case of abduction and gangrape of a software employee by two cab drivers in October," Anand added.
