Parmar, who was hit bullets in the back, was rushed to a hospital where he was operated upon and his condition was now stable, the City Superintendent of Police (CSP) S S Chouhan told PTI.

In an FIR lodged with the Malharganj police, Parmar has named four persons including a sitting BJP MLA Sudershan Gupta and his aides Chottu Mittal, Vipin Gandhi and Gopal Goyal for the attack, the CSP said.

Thousands of people led by two BJP MLAs Ramesh Mandola and Jitu Jirati were participating in 'Bhuteshwar Mahadev ki barat' organised by Parmar from Bara Ganpati area when the incident occurred, the CSP said, adding a property dispute was stated to be the reason behind the attack.

Altogether 22 criminal cases were pending against Parmar in different cities including Indore and Bhopal.

When contacted, a BJP functionary said Parmar was once heading the party's Jal-Samiti but was no more active.

Meanwhile, the BJP's district committee held a meeting here to discuss the incident but the party's spokesman declined to give any information.
