Culture connect: Gov to stay in tribal village for a night

As part of efforts to bridge the cultural divide, Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan plans to visit a tribal village and stay there for a night to understand their problems.

"I want to make a visit to a tribal village and stay back there for night halt to understand the cultural divide and their native problems," an official release quoted the governor as saying.

The release further said as a medical student, she had visited remote tribal areas of the Andaman Islands along with her friends to render voluntary services.

After reviewing the implementation of Tribal Welfare Schemes in the State, Soundararajan said she would pursue with the Centre about the proposed Tribal University at Mulugu district which needs the union cabinets clearance.

 

The governor has asked officials to encourage and develop entrepreneurship among the tribal youth particularly on abundantly available herbal medicines in tribal areas.

She advised officials to document medicinal values in herbs and roots that areknown only to the local tribal community.
