The Delhi Congress today staged protests in the city over the death of five farmers in police firing at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh, with the party's youth wing activists stopping a train at Tilak Bridge station here.

The Youth Congress activists led by their national secretary, Sitaram Lamba, stopped the movement of Delhi- Dehradun Shatabdi at Tilak Bridge around 11 AM.

They were later removed from the track by the police.

Another protest was held at Bawana where Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken while addressing the partymen slammed the BJP-led NDA government for its "anti-farmer" policies.

"The country is now witnessing such a vitiated atmosphere that atrocities on farmers, dalits and minorities have become common, as nobody seems to be safe under the Modi rule in the country," he said.

Congress will continue to wage a war with the government over the farmers issues under the leadership of party vice president Rahul Gandhi, he said.

Comparing the Congress-led UPA government's steps for benefiting farmers with that of the Modi government, he said "our government at the Centre had written off Rs 70,000 crore debts of the farmers to lessen their burden while this government has not waived even Rs 70."

The party in-charge of Delhi, P C Chacko alleged that the Modi government is "anti-farmers" and it has fulfilled none of the poll promises.
