Delhi govt approves rehabilitation of 43 JJ clusters

Moving towards fulfilling one of its poll-promise, the Aam Admi Party (AAP) government today gave approval for the rehabilitation of people living in 43 JJ clusters across the national capital.

The decision was taken in a meeting of Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, at Delhi Secretariat here.

During the Assembly poll, the Aam Aadmi Party had promised provide 'jahan jhuggi wahan makan' (where there are jhuggis, there will be homes).

In today's meeting, it was decided that people living in 43 JJ clusters will be shifted to new accommodation within a radius of 0-5 kms.
 

It was also decided that the government will look after maintenance works of the flats for five years where jhuggi dwellers will be accommodated.

According to a senior official, the city government has made a plan of rehabilitating 675 JJ Clusters across the national capital where around 3 lakh people are living.

"Government will soon start process to rehabilitate jhuggi dwellers in flats constructed in other schemes," the official said.

In the budget, government had also allocated Rs 100 crore for rehabilitation of JJ clusters.
