Two persons have been arrested in connection with the wall collapse in west Delhi's Hari Nagar area, which left four persons dead, and prompted the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to order an inquiry.

The arrested are Subhash Baweja (60), the owner of the building, and Prabhati Lal (42), the contractor, police said today.

"We have arrested the owner and the contractor. They have been booked under appropriate sections of the IPC," a senior police officer said.

Four labourers, aged between 25 and 35 years, died when the wall of an under-construction building collapsed in the L Block of Hari Nagar area around 7.20 pm last night.

Following the incident, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) today ordered an inquiry. The inquiry panel will be headed by its chief engineer.

"An inquiry has been ordered into the incident by the deputy commissioner. The building plan was sanctioned by the corporation, but the incident happened when a wall was being erected in the basement," a senior SDMC official said.

Delhi of late has seen many cases of building collapse, two of the recent cases being from the areas falling under the jurisdiction of North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

On June 28, a building had collapsed in Tulsi Nagar area of Inderlok in north Delhi, in which ten people were killed.

A three-storey under-construction building had also collapsed in Sadar Bazar area in north Delhi, where three persons were killed and 12 others injured.
