Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Ashok Prasad today sanctioned scholarships of Rs 4.52 lakhs to 64 wards of police personnel, who laid down their lives in militancy-related incidents in the state.
Reviewing the scholarship schemes for police wards at a meeting held at Police Headquarters (PHQ) today, Prasad said the organisation, realising its responsibility to help the wards of martyrs, has been providing scholarships to their school going children enabling them to continue education.
The DGP said that welfare of wards of policemen is one of the top most priorities of the organisation to infuse a spirit of competition among them and boost their morale.

He said that various welfare schemes have been introduced to inspire police wards towards the quality education enabling to compete in competitive examinations and sports events.
Police Public Schools have been established at all range headquarters, besides twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar, he said adding the schools in capital cities are fully equipped with latest techniques of education including computer lab facilities and sufficient infrastructure.
The DGP said the organisation is aware about the hardships faced by the police personnel in view of their nature of duty.
