Senior medical officials in Cachar district said the worst affected are Barthal, Lalang, Thailu and Labok tea estates.
One person, Josna Tanti (35), succumbed to diarrhoea at the Barthal tea estate late last night. Official sources said she was suffering from the disease since past few days.
Tanti's ten-year-old son is still undergoing treatment.
While locals blamed the district health officials for not taking any emergency measures to provide treatment, official sources said a team of doctors have been rushed to the affected tea estates.
