Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has requested the Election Commission of India not to allot 'Folded palms' symbol to the newly formed political party Bharat Dharam Jana Sena in the state as it resembles the Congress symbol 'Hand'.
The formation of the new party was announced at a rally here on December 5 by Vellapally Natesan, General Secretary of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, an organisation of the numerically strong backward Ezhava community in the state.
In a letter to the Election Commission, KPCC President V M Sudheeran said if the new party was allotted 'folded palms', it would create confusion among voters and was likely to affect the prospects of the Congress during the election.

"We register our apprehension in the matter with Election Commission of India and request that the symbol of folded palms may not be allotted to any political party now existing or newly formed," Sudheeran said.
The new party is most likely to have a tie-up with BJP in Kerala as SNDP Yogam had supported and co-operated with BJP in the recently held Civic polls.
