Don't spread rumours about sighting leopard: Dist officials to

Mathura district authorities today asked people to desist from spreading rumours regarding the sighting of the leopard which has run amok in the area.

Officials concerned have been asked to get in touch with the people and impress upon them the need to avoid spreading rumours about the leopard.

Senior district officials also appealed to the public to take adequate precautions in view of the likely presence of the big cat in the area.

At least six persons, including a police officer, were attacked and injured by a leopard which strayed into the city, prompting authorities to sound a high alert.
 

Army personnel were assisting police and forest officials in tracing the leopard, which was first sighted on Sunday morning in the city.
