Eight employees of BHEL, Haridwar have been suspended for allegedly roughing up other employees of the company to stop them from discharging their duties on September 2 when trade unions went on a strike against the Centre's labour policies.
The eight suspended employees are accused of even hitting two senior manager-level officials and tearing their clothes to prevent them from entering the company's gates during the nationwide strike, a BHEL spokesman said.
Angered by the action, BHEL Workers' Union shouted slogans against the management demanding withdrawal of their suspension.
"It was a desperate step taken by the management because of the success of the strike," BHEL labour Union leader Rajbir Singh said.
