'Encyclopedia' of languages of Gujarat published

The city-based Bhasha Research and Publication Centre today announced publication of the Gujarat, Diu & Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli Volume of the People's Linguistic Survey of India Series (PLSI).
The volume, edited by Kanjibhai Patel and published by Orient Blackswan, would be released by the Gujarat Governor O P Kohli tomorrow.
The volume documents 49 languages or dialects spoken in the state, including the languages of coastal, tribal and nomadic communities.
Ganesh N Devy, a renowned literary critic and activist and the founder of the Bhasha Research and Publication Centre, said, "I had launched a nationwide survey of the living languages of India in 2010. The survey findings and documentation are now being published as a linguistic encyclopedia of 70 volumes. 20 volumes have already been published.
