Protesting against the transfer of a case of an engineer's murder to CBCID, lawyers of the city went on an indefinite strike alleging that the move was done to save an MLA who is named in the FIR.

The lawyers went on an indefinite strike yesterday in support of their colleague Dinesh Gandhi, whose son Shikhar (27) was allegedly murdered on Januray 19 allegedly by BSP MLA from Bansgaon seat in Gorakhpur Vijay Anand Bajpai.

His body was found in Barabanki on January 20.

Gandhi, a lawyer, said the MLA used his clout to get the probe transferred to CBCID and demanded that the probe should be handed back to Barabanki police so that the guilty should be booked.

They started their strike yesterday which continued today also.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Bar Council also decided to support the demand and start statewide agitation from February 20.

According to the victim's family, the MLA's wife had allegedly taken Rs 3.5 lakh from Shikhar promising him better job but could not fulfil her promise.

Shekhar was asked to visit the MLA's residence in Lucknow on January 19 but later he did not return and his body was recovered.
