Environmental issues are "moral" issues and people should make a collective effort to protect flora and fauna, Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan has said.
The minister laid the foundation stone for redevelopment and upgradation of the Okhla Bird Sanctuary to mark International Day of Forest at Noida yesterday.
"Environmental issues are not technical issues, but moral issues," the minister said and urged people to make a collective effort to protect flora and fauna.
He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of delivering a New India by 2022 where there is dense forest, and clean water and air.
Minister of State for Environment Mahesh Sharma said that under the project, the Okhla Bird sanctuary will get a "watch tower of international standards, a re-laid cycle track for tourists, CCTV network for improved security and electric vehicles for mobility".
The Okhla Bird Sanctuary is located close to New Delhi and is one of the 467 Important Bird Areas (IBA) in the country.
It is home to a large number of resident as well as migratory birds, including grey-headed fish eagle, Baikal teal, Baer's pochard and Sarus crane.
