In the present age every country should have a strong brand presence in the digital world, the British Deputy High Commissioner Bruce Bucknell said on Tuesday.
Bucknell said this while talking to the media on the sidelines of a digital summit 'Engage' here.
"We have to build up Brand UK, Brand Russia, Brand India and likewise in this digital world. We have to think in this term," he said.
Drawing on the strength of the respective country, a strong narrative should be built upon to reach out to people in the social network, the envoy said.
Turning to India and UK, the diplomat said, digital diplomacy can cement ties between the two nations.

"In India over half a billion people are having access to digital output," and UK has a great scope of reaching out to them through different events projecting Brand UK and Brand India, he said.
"The users (of social media) in India must look at UK in India on twitter and facebook. These are great challenges, you got to be able to create events," he said.
Bring together various elements to become visually attractive, give a narrative to put your point across, Bucknell suggested.
Digital diplomacy can boost contacts between two countries, "hashtag can cement ties," Bucknell said.
Alerting against the trend of fake news, he said "Though we have same tradition of fake news" in ancient times, there is a difference between the present and past.
"While this is (fake news) is nothing new, the difference lies in the speed delivery of such news" in the present age, he opined.
"Any new story can travel around the world so quickly and that challenge has to be encountered. In the new age a process has to be in place to tackle false stories," the British Deputy High Commissioner said.
