Explosive material was recovered from a vehicle during a routine checking in the Civil Lines police station area here on Monday, police said.
During a routine checking of vehicles, police recovered 650 kg of explosive amonium nitrate, commonly used in blasting of stones, SP Ganesh Saha said.
The driver of the vehicle fled on seeing the police team, the SP said, adding that the vehicle did not carry a proper number plate.
Investigation was under way, the SP added.
